As a healthcare training provider, the idea of a vaccine passport is at complete odds with our core principles. We teach students about equality and diversity and how to recognise and root out discrimination. Vaccine passports will create a two-tier society based on medical discrimination, we simply cannot support this. Every person should have the freedom of choice (Freedom of choice describes an individual's opportunity and autonomy to perform an action selected from at least two available options, unconstrained by external parties) to make an informed voluntary decision on any medical procedure. There should be three acceptable answers, Yes, No, and Not Right Now. The right to refuse medication forms a core part of NICE, NHS, RCN and NMC guidelines in relation to medication administration and there should be no repercussions or penalties for making the decision to say no or not right now as this constitutes coercion (the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats).
